网红正在改变艺术的观赏

Galleries across the world are attracting snap-happy youngsters eager to impress their online followers. Immersive exhibitions of the art of Yayoi Kusama and Vincent van Gogh have drawn camera-wielding crowds from Melbourne to New York. The word wanghong roughly means “viral” or “internet famous”, with a hint of tackiness. As a noun, it can refer to China’s social-media influencers, otherwise known as “key opinion leaders” (KOLs). As an adjective, it describes hotspots to which young Chinese flock to take selfies, urging their followers to “ da ka”, or check in, at the same place: the phrase basically means “been there, done that”, says Cathy Cao, a 22-year-old KOL. “It validates that you are on the trend and that you aren’t left behind.” The wanghong location might be a café, a tree—or, quite often, an art gallery.

1. Galleries across the world are attracting snap-happy youngsters eager to impress their online followers.

世界各地的艺术馆正吸引着热衷拍照的年轻人,他们渴望收获粉丝的赞叹。

·长难句分析:Galleries across the world(主) are attracting(谓) snap-happy youngsters(宾语) eager to impress their online followers(宾语的后置定语)

·snap-happy:美 [snæp] VERB 给…拍照。柯林斯词典例句:He was the first ever non-British photographer to be invited to snap a royal. 他是有史以来第一个应邀为王室成员拍照的非英籍摄影师。此句中就是这个词义。

还有其它意思,可以看看金融时报例句:The labour market is unlikely to snap back quickly for a number of reasons. 劳动力市场不太可能快速反弹,原因很多。

2. Immersive exhibitions of the art of Yayoi Kusama and Vincent van Gogh have drawn camera-wielding crowds from Melbourne to New York.

从墨尔本到纽约,草间弥生和梵高的沉浸式艺术展吸引了大批举着相机的参观者。

·Immersive:美 [ɪˈmɜːrsɪv] adj.身临其境;沉浸感;沉浸;身历其境;沉醉式。经济学人例句:At some point in the future, anyone who wants to may be able to switch in and out of fully immersive virtual worlds. 将来某个时候,任何人如果愿意,都可以在真实世界和完全沉浸式的虚拟世界中来回切换。

金融时报例句:Zoom’s two-way features could lead to more immersive experiences. Zoom的双向功能可能会为用户带来更多身临其境的体验。

常见短语有immerse oneself in sth和be immersed in sth,看看下面的外刊例句:

But he also immersed himself deeply in academic debates. 但他也深深地投入学术辩论。

纽约时报例句:She immersed herself in the writings of Wang Yangming, a Ming dynasty philosopher. 她沉浸在明代哲学家王阳明的著作中。

This can be exhausting, since it requires us to actively engage our brains, like being immersed in a new language. 这可能会令人筋疲力尽,因为它需要我们积极地动脑,就像沉浸于一种新的语言那样。

金融时报例句:Once, immersed in her inbox while awaiting her flight from Dubai, she looked up, wondering why the departure area was so quiet, to discover she was at the wrong gate.

He was wielding a large knife. 他挥舞着一把大刀。And European officials wield a stick to encourage investment. 而欧洲官员挥舞大棒鼓励投资。此句中就是这个词义,即使用,挥舞。

还有其它意思,可以看看经济学人例句:The purpose of the Murdoch empire has always been to wield power as well as to make money. 默多克帝国的目标一直都是赚钱兼发挥影响力。

It will allow the state to wield far more control over money. 它能让政府大大增强对货币的控制权。

3. The word wanghong roughly means “viral” or “internet famous”, with a hint of tackiness.

“网红”这个词的大意是“刷屏网络”或“在网上很出名”,隐约带着一丝俗气。

·Viral:美 [ˈvaɪrəl] adj. 病毒的;病毒性的;病毒引起的。牛津词典例句:A viral illness left her barely able to walk. 一场病毒引起的疾病使她走路十分困难。

名词是virality,看经济学人例句:The result is a culture of virality that, while entertaining, poisons public discourse and disquiets governments. 由此产生了一种病毒式传播的文化,它虽有娱乐性,却败坏了公共话语空间,令政府不安。

·a hint of:的迹象,一点点……牛津词典例句:There was a hint of accusation in her voice. 她的话音中暗含谴责的意思。

经济学人例句:As Mr Hastings points out with a hint of pride in his voice. 哈斯廷斯语带自豪地指出。

金融时报例句:As I looked at their faces I saw an impassive mask of the sheerest boredom. Vacant with a hint of despair. 当我看着他们的脸时,我看见的是面无表情、百无聊赖的神态,空虚中带着一丝绝望。

·Tackiness:是tacky的名词形式, tacky美 ['tæki] adj. 俗气的;发黏的;缺乏教养或风度的。柯林斯词典例句:The whole thing is dreadfully tacky. 整件东西糟糕透顶。

简明英汉词典例句:She looks really tacky in that dress. 她穿那件衣服看起来俗不可耐。

《乱世佳人》电影台词:I didn't want to wear your tacky green dress anyhow, stingy!我不穿你的俗气裙子,小气鬼!此句中就是这个词义,即俗气。

4. As an adjective, it describes hotspots to which young Chinese flock to take selfies, urging their followers to “ da ka”, or check in, at the same place: the phrase basically means “been there, done that”, says Cathy Cao, a 22-year-old KOL.

作形容词时,它可以形容那些中国年轻人一窝蜂前去自拍的热门地点。这些年轻人同时鼓励自己的粉丝也去“打卡”(也就是签到)——这个词的意思基本上就是“去过了”,22岁的KOL凯西·曹(音译)说道。

·长难句分析:to which young Chinese flock to take selfies是hotspots的定语从句,前面的to是和flock组在一起,即flock to hotspots,使用定语从句的时候介词to可以放在which前面。第二个to是目的状语,即to take selfies指为了拍自拍照片。

·take selfies:纽约时报例句:At the Rain Vortex indoor waterfall, usually crowded with people jostling to take selfies, there was plenty of space to take a photo alone. 在室内瀑布“雨漩涡”周围通常挤满了争先恐后拍照的人,现在却有足够的空间独自拍照。

5. “It validates that you are on the trend and that you aren’t left behind.” The wanghong location might be a café, a tree—or, quite often, an art gallery.

"这能证明你赶上了潮流,没有落伍。"网红打卡点可能是一家咖啡馆,一棵树,或者常常是一家艺术馆。

·长难句分析:that you are on the trend and that you aren’t left behind是validate的宾语从句,第二个that不能省略。

·validate:美 [ˈvælɪdeɪt] VERB 证实,确认;证明…有价值,认可。柯林斯词典例句:She is looking for an image that validates her. 她在寻求一种能够证明自己价值的形象。

经济学人例句:WeWork’s SPAC deal “validates its business model”. WeWork通过SPAC的上市“验证了其商业模式的有效性”。

名词是validation,如:Some thought must be given to the method of validation. 一些想法必须通过验证法加以证实。

反义词是invalidate,看看金融时报例句:His efforts to muddy the waters and invalidate absentee ballots are deeply un-American. 他试图把水搅浑,使缺席选票被作废,这种行为非常“不美国”。

·on the trend:在趋势上,即赶上了潮流。此句中就是这个词义。

还有常见的capitalise on the trend,指利用趋势,看看金融时报例句:Other industries are hoping to capitalise on the trend, too. 其他行业也希望利用这个趋势。

还有常见的seize/jump/leap on the trend,指赶上潮流,如经济学人例句:

Major publishers are seizing on the trend. 大出版商正在赶这股潮流。

Businesses, keen for green plaudits, also leapt on the trend. 商业界渴望得到世界对其绿色行为的褒奖,同样也抓住时下潮流。
